AbbVie to Acquire Apogee’s Long-Acting Antibody Pipeline in $10.9B Deal
AbbVie has announced that it will acquire Apogee Therapeutics, a biotech company focused on immunology and inflammatory diseases, in a cash transaction valued at approximately $10.9 billion.
Through the acquisition, AbbVie will gain Apogee’s long-acting antibody pipeline, led by zumilokibart.
Deal Highlights
- Transaction value of approximately $10.9 billion
- Purchase price of $135.11 per share
- Lead candidate is the IL-13 antibody zumilokibart
- Initial focus includes moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis
- Transaction expected to close in Q3 2026
Zumilokibart is being developed as a long-acting antibody targeting IL-13. It is designed with the potential for less frequent dosing compared with existing therapies, with development opportunities across atopic dermatitis, asthma, and eosinophilic esophagitis.
The acquisition reflects AbbVie’s continued focus on strengthening its long-term immunology growth platform. Following biosimilar pressure on Humira, Skyrizi and Rinvoq have become major growth drivers, while external innovation remains an important route to expanding the next wave of inflammatory disease assets.
What stands out is the level of value placed on a differentiated clinical-stage asset. Candidates with a clear mechanism of action, dosing convenience, clinical data, and commercial potential continue to attract significant capital in immunology and inflammation.
Across large pharma M&A, the focus is not limited to early technologies or discovery platforms. Advanced clinical assets with meaningful differentiation remain a key route to building mid- and long-term growth.
Congratulations to both teams at AbbVie and Apogee Therapeutics.
