Ipsen to Acquire Kartos, Adding Late-Stage Myelofibrosis Asset
Ipsen has announced that it will acquire U.S.-based Kartos Therapeutics.
The transaction includes an upfront payment of $450 million and up to $1.3 billion in development, regulatory, and sales milestones, bringing the total potential value to up to $1.75 billion.
Deal Highlights
- $450M upfront; total potential value of up to $1.75B
- Navtemadlin: late-stage MDM2 inhibitor candidate for myelofibrosis
- Positioned for patients with suboptimal response to, or inability to continue, standard-of-care treatment
- Potential launch timing as early as 2028, subject to successful Phase III results
- Closing expected by the end of Q3 2026
The acquisition adds a late-stage hematology asset to Ipsen’s oncology pipeline, with a focus on an area of significant unmet medical need.
In myelofibrosis, treatment remains challenging beyond symptom and spleen-size management. Options after existing therapy and long-term disease management remain important development needs. Acquiring late-stage assets can help pharma companies manage clinical risk while building future growth opportunities.
This transaction also suggests that interest remains strong not only in drug discovery platforms, but also in late-stage assets tied to clear unmet needs. Investments of this kind continue to hold an important place in pharma pipeline strategy.
Congratulations to both teams at Ipsen and Kartos Therapeutics.
